Changes announced to Saint John Airport’s Board of Directors
Saint John – The Saint John Airport’s Board of Directors today announced changes to the membership of its executive committee. The changes include a new chair, vice-chair and treasurer, and are effective July 1, 2020.
“Although the year started on a high note, with strong passenger traffic and the announcement of a new carrier, we’ve had to quickly pivot to focus on the immediate and urgent priorities dictated by the COVID-19 crisis,” said President and CEO Derrick Stanford. “The board’s executive committee have the experience, expertise and skill required to see our organization through these challenges and back on a path of growth.”
Local business leader Mark Bettle assumes the position of Chair of the Airport Authority’s Board of Directors. Bettle, a retired executive with J.D. Irving Ltd., has served on the board for six years, two of which were spent as Vice Chair.
“YSJ is facing a future that will present many risks and challenges, perhaps more than ever before,” Bettle said. “However, we have a very strong Board and an excellent management team to see us through these difficult times, and I am confident the airport will emerge as an even stronger and more resilient operation. “
Originally nominated by the Saint John Region Chamber, Bettle replaces outgoing Chair Larry Hachey, who signaled his intention to step down earlier this year.
Retired executive Susan Harley assumes the role of Vice Chair, after serving as the Committee’s Treasurer. Harley was originally nominated by Transport Canada in 2018.
Shilo Boucher joins the Executive Committee as Treasurer. Boucher, also CEO of the YMCA of Greater Saint John, was nominated in 2017 by the Fundy Regional Services Commission.
Susan Layton, WorkSafeNB’s Chief of Staff and Corporate Secretary, will continue as Secretary. Layton was first named to the board by the Saint John Airport in 2014.
Larry Hachey will continue to support the Executive Committee as Past Chair. “It has been rewarding to see the transformational growth and improvement our Airport has experienced over these years,” Hachey said. “I want to thank the YSJ board and management for all their support. With the airfield modernization project now completed, our airport is set for the next 20 years of continued growth: diversifying our airline carriers, expanding our routes, improving passenger experience, and increasing passenger traffic.”
The Executive Committee of the Authority’s Board of Directors meets with airport senior management between regular meetings of the board to deal with matters pertaining to the direction of the affairs and business of the organization. It is supported by a versatile board of directors who possess a broad range of skills, business experience and expertise, including engineering, legal, marketing and financial accounting.
